Kaytlin’s Sauvie Island, Oregon Senior Session

Sauvie Island, Oregon Senior Session

I don’t head out to Sauvie Island often for shoots, it’s a long drive and it takes twice as much time getting around to all the different locations the island offers. It’s not for those senior’s (or parents) who tire easily. However, I knew that Sauvie Island was the one place that had everything we needed for Kate’s perfect session.

Last year I had Kate’s sister, Bailey on the model team. During that time, the Walton’s have become family to me and I was so happy to be able to photograph Kate this year. Getting to know Kate better this year has been so much fun. She’s much different from her sister but equally beautiful and amazing to know.

I’m so blessed that both Bailey and Kate’s sessions have been some of my all time favorite shoots! For Kate’s session we needed country chic, sunflowers and water. Sauvie Island delivered on all. The day started with Kate getting ready at the office with Aryka, then I enjoyed chatting with Kate and her mom on the drive out. We shot at three different spots on the Island, our last was on the beach. Kate’s outfits coordinated perfectly with each spot. It was a fun day filled with laughter and maybe a few happy tears.

I submitted one of Kate’s images to Senior Style Guide’s Hot 100 image contest and won for the first time! I couldn’t be more happy with this shoot.

Searching For The Perfect Prom Dress?

Blog post by intern Mini Campbell

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – Prom season! For a lot of girls this means spending hours with friends getting their nails done, their hair styled, their makeup on point, and of course, finding their perfect dresses. But for anyone who’s ever wandered into a Macy’s, that perfect dress often comes attached to a less than perfect price tag. So, how do we avoid spending $200 dollars on a dress only to show up to find that *gasp* Stacy’s wearing it too?

Abby’s Closet is a non-profit organization dedicated to making sure every girl get’s their dream prom dress. Their 13th annual event will be held March 18th and 19th at The Oregon Convention Center. As someone who has experienced this event myself, I can tell you – It is completely worth it. Contests, raffles, and free dresses? What could possibly be better?

That being said, there are some things I would definitely recommend in order to make the experience as amazing as possible.

Firstly and most importantly, bring friends!
I went with two of my best girlfriends and believe me, It made the experience way more enjoyable. Prom is all about having fun and letting loose, and who better to do that with than your besties?

Secondly, and I cannot stress this enough, show up early. The dresses go quickly, and once people start showing up, the wait can get pretty long. Make sure to bring your student ID card and some patience.

Whether or not you bring friends, you should bring something to keep you occupied. This is something we didn’t do, and totally should have. Coloring books, playing cards, and a good book are all great ideas. The estimated wait time can be up to a few hours, so you could even leave to grab a coffee and explore the city.

Lastly, some girls find their dress instantly, for others, it may take a bit more searching. Try not to be discouraged if you don’t find what you’re looking for right away. You will. A lot of the best dresses are diamonds in the rough, you’ve just gotta dig a little.

So, if you’re thinking about going, let me be the one to give you the push. It’s definitely worth the time, the volunteers are funny and sweet, there’s tons of chances for great prizes, and there’s no worrying about somebody showing up to prom in the same dress as you!

Elena’s Portland Pearl District Senior Session

Portland Pearl District Senior Session

Elena, what can I say? She’s just that kind of girl you want to be best friends with. She’s super sweet and kind but she has opinions and tons of personality to go around. She’s a beauty and a black belt. Elena plays softball and has a new injury almost every time I see her.  I just love being around this young woman and she’s so fun to photograph!

Elena’s Pearl District Senior Session suited her and her outfits so well. I love the light we had in the city this day. It was so much fun romping around the city with Elena, her mom and one of her best friends. Anytime you shoot in Portland you end up with a story, our shoot actually went pretty smoothly without too many interruptions. We just had one lady who thought she was a posing expert and tried to take over our shoot! HA! Elena had her hair and makeup styled by Aryka of Vivid Chromatics.

I have had so much fun shoots with Elena and I cannot wait to share photos from our beach and fair shoot at a later date.

The Pearl District Session | Briana

Briana is about to graduate from Lakeridge and I had so much fun with her pearl district session last fall. We started out getting ready at Vivid Chromatic’s salon on 10th and glisan. Aryka always does a great job with our seniors and it’s always a treat being able to get ready in her salon in the pearl. I love doing shoots in the pearl, there’s so much variety in backgrounds and the energy is always so much fun. Briana’s session did not disappoint, the weather and timing worked out so well we were able to get some shots on top of a parking garage just before sunset. The outfits Briana brought for her session suited the city chic look perfectly, here are some of my favorites from the day!

Beavercreek Equestrian Senior Session | Bailey

Bailey’s senior session out at her horse’s barn was absolutely magical! The location was to die for and the weather was just what you’d hope for! The saddest part for me was knowing that I was not likely to ever shoot this location again because it’s private property and alas, Bailey no longer keeps her horse there =(  but I digress, this is about Bailey! Teddy was not overly fond of the camera but we captured some solid shots for her equestrian senior session and Bailey is such a fun, beautiful spirit.

We started out the day getting ready at the office, Beauty by Hannah pampered Bailey and gave her the absolutely most perfect, camera ready look for her session. The makeup and hair just suited Bailey’s look and personality gorgeously! Bailey brought some great outfits and it was just one of those days where everything aligns and goes so smoothly. We had so much fun and I can’t wait to share some of my favorites from the day!
